MOTS AVAILABLE WHILE YOU WAIT
If your vehicle is 3 years or older you are required by law to have an annual ministry of transport test, known as an MOT. The purpose of the MoT test is to ensure the vehicle meets the minimum safety level required by the DVSA.
During the MOT test the nominated tester or will carry out a comprehensive series of checks around the vehicle, including the interior, exterior, under the bonnet and luggage compartment and under the vehicle as well as the exhaust emissions.
If the vehicle passes a VT20 ‘pass’ certificate is issued. If the vehicle fails to meet the required standard a VT30 ‘failure’ document is issued.
If your vehicle does fail its MOT then we offer a complete repair service at very competitive prices – and our policy is to try and get the vehicle back to the customer the same day. If you don’t want us to carry out the repairs this is fine. You have ten working days for a free partial re-test on minor items. If your vehicle has failed on any measurable items, then a retest fee will be payable. If your car is left on the premises for the repairs, then the retest fee is waivered. You only get one chance on the retest – so please make sure all the work is done to the required minimum standard – or a full MOT test fee will be payable again.
Items that have started to deteriorate – but are not bad enough to fail, will be listed on a VT32 ‘advisory cerificate. These advisory items may or may not need replacing before your cars next MOT – it is up to you the driver, to make sure your car is roadworthy at all times.
The penalty for not having an up to date MoT certificate could be a fine. If your vehicle is involved in an accident, you may be asked to produce your MoT certificate. An insurance claim could be affected by the absence of your MoT, especially in the case of injury.
As long as you have made a pre-arranged MOT appointment for your car, you are covered by law to drive your car directly to the appointment without an MOT.
The MOT certificate means your car is roadworthy at the time of test, but it doesn’t mean your car will remain fault free for the next 12 months. We strongly recommend that you have your car health checked at regular intervals. We offer vehicle health checks, please ask us for details.
